5 Best Restaurants in Golden Colorado: A Local's Faves

One of the things that surprises newcomers about Golden is how great the food scene is for a town of its size.
While Golden is known for hiking trails, breweries, and Clear Creek, it also has a handful of restaurants that consistently earn local loyalty. These aren't necessarily the places with the biggest marketing budgets—they're the places locals bring visiting friends and family.
1. Abejas
If you're celebrating something—or simply want one of the best meals in Jefferson County—Abejas is where I send people first.
Located in an historic downtown building, Abejas focuses on beautiful seasonal ingredients, thoughtfully prepared dishes, and a menu that changes throughout the year. The atmosphere feels intimate without being stuffy, making it equally suitable for date night or brunch with friends.
Local tip: Start with brunch reservations.

Bridgewater Grill
Sitting directly on Clear Creek inside The Golden Hotel, Bridgewater Grill offers one of the best dining views in town.
Grab a patio table in the summer and you'll have front-row seats to kayakers, tubers, and the occasional hang glider drifting down from Lookout Mountain. The menu focuses on Colorado-inspired comfort food with elevated touches.
Local Tip: This is one of my favorite spots for out-of-town visitors.

Sherpa House
Part restaurant, part hidden oasis, Sherpa House serves Himalayan and Nepalese cuisine in a historic home just a few blocks from downtown. During warmer months, the garden patio becomes one of the most charming dining spaces in Golden.
Local Tip: Request patio seating if weather permits.

Golden Mill
The Golden Mill isn't just a restaurant—it's one of Golden's best gathering places.
With multiple food vendors (think fried chicken, sushi, tacos and everything in between), self-pour taps, and a large rooftop deck overlooking Clear Creek, it's ideal for groups who can never quite agree on what they want to eat. Plus, the rooftop is one of the best places in town to spend a summer afternoon soaking up the sun.
Local Tip: Definitely arrive early on weekends to beat the crowds.

Bonfire Burritos
No Golden food list feels complete without Bonfire.
Known throughout the Front Range for oversized breakfast burritos, Bonfire has developed a cult following among locals, hikers, cyclists, and Colorado School of Mines students.
Local Tip: Expect a line. It's worth it.

The best restaurant in Golden depends on what you're looking for. Abejas wins for special occasions; Bridgewater Grill gets my vote for summer scenery; Sherpa House is one of the town's hidden gems for al fresco happy hour; Golden Mill is unmatched for atmosphere; and Bonfire remains the breakfast burrito champion.n.
